What learners say about the courses

Reflections from reporters and camera operators who have trained with us, shared in their own words and about their own experience.

In their words

Experiences from our classroom and field days

These are accounts from people who attended our courses. They describe what they practised and what changed in their day-to-day work.

I had been shooting for a local team for a few years but never had my handheld work properly reviewed. Watching my footage back with Daniel was uncomfortable and very useful. My shots are steadier and I think about audio much earlier now.

Rebecca Hartley Camera operator at a regional news team

Helen made me rewrite my piece to camera several times, and each version was clearer than the last. I stopped trying to sound like a presenter and started sounding like myself. The filmed practice was the most valuable part.

Marcus Ellery Trainee reporter

The live coverage course made the whole chain feel manageable. We planned, cued and filed from a real location, and Priya stopped us whenever something was unclear. I felt far calmer on my first live job afterwards.

Sunita Rao Video journalist

Doing a pairing day with a reporter was an eye-opener. I understood why she asked for certain shots, and she saw why some were hard. We communicated far better by the end, and the edit came together easily.
